"I'm Mad as Hell and I'm Not Going to Take it Anymore!" Remember "Network"? Watch it again real soon; compare today's Cable and TV news. That movie was dead on. Today, Truth, Justice & the American Way are all in peril and I am mad as hell. Here are my cantankerous takes on recent news and politics and other things that go bump in my brain.

Son of the Sequel of My Pet Goat the 13th

As if anyone needs a reminder, on 9/11 the President sat listening to My Pet Goat after learning that the Country was under attack.

When Katrina devastated the lives of 1oo's of 1000's of people along the Gulf Coast, the President needed to be convinced to cut one of his many vacations short.

And tonight on Larry King Condoleeza Rice explained that the President has not spoken with Ehud Olmert of Israel, or President Assad, or any other current mideast leader about the current war raging along the Lebanese and Israeli border. According to Condy, the President will talk to "anyone" if it becomes "important."

"Important"?

"Important"?

The talking heads and news agencies are scrambling over each other to label the situation is a "crisis", a "war" or "World War III".

[John McCain just said he's "surprised" to hear the President has not spoken with Olmert. Surprise is one word for how it makes me feel].

What in the world can be more important in today's world than the level of violence in the Mideast?

What was Condoleeza thinking?

What is President Bush thinking?

If this is not "important" enough to merit the President's personal attention what is?

Why didn't Larry King ask Condoleeza that question?

A couple of answers spring to mind.

1) Bush isn't really interested and can't be bothered.
2) Bush is on vacation for the next ten days anyway.
3) The persuasive power of the so-called "leader of the free world" isn't worth a cup of coffee in the Mideast because he's screwed it up so badly.
4) Condy and the rest of the staff are so afraid he'll make things worse that they won't let him near a telephone.
5) Bush really thinks that the leaders of other independent nations do not take it as an insult when the president expects them to deal with his lackeys.
6) The President is having so much fun reading "Pat the Bunny" he hasn't finished reading his briefing materials.
7) The President hasn't read his briefing materials.
8) The President doesn't understand his briefing materials.
9) The President's dog ate his briefing materials while the President was out looking for brush to cut and a few illegal mexican immigrants to harass.
10) Any or all of the above.
